The Ensign Joseph Sherwood Mayo DeMolay Loan Fund was started by Past California State President Frank V. Mayo and his wife, Clara Ann, of Stockton CA, as an irrevocable trust fund July 1, 1946, in memory of their son, who was killed in an airplane accident on December 21, 1945.
Ensign Mayo attended Annapolis as a cadet for two years, resigned to enter the Navy Air Force at Pensacola FL. Upon graduation with the rank of Ensign, he was granted a furlough so that he could visit his parents in California for Christmas. With five others he perised in a crash in dense fog near Escondido CA.
He was a member of Stockton Chapter, order of DeMolay, Delta Lodge No. 471, and Morning Star Lodge No. 68, F&AM in Stockton CA. The Fund has helped worthy DeMolay, Job's Daughters, Rainbow Girls, Master Masons, and Appendant Masonic Group members achieve an education of their choice in California which through lack of funds would not otherwise be available.
Applicants must be an active or senior California DeMolay, Job's Daughter, Rainbow Girl, a Master Mason, or an Appendant Masonic Group member.
